In the new Yahoo Mail Beta - Does using the preview window allow computer viruses in?

3246>This also applies to Outlook - I've always closed the preview window for fear of "opening" a virus. Is this true? Or must you actually "open" a contaminated email for a virus to get into your computer???
Reply:It was certainly the case in older versions of Outlook that all you had to do was read a message to become infected. I don't know to what extent Microsoft has fixed that.

As for Yahoo! Mail Beta, you are pretty safe. Yahoo! Mail Beta runs messages through a filter that removes the nastiness that plagues most web-based mail readers (also known as cross site scripting attacks). Additionally, Yahoo! provides antivirus scanning when you download attachments. The level of protection provided afforded by Yahoo! Mail Beta is very good.
