Do apple computers get viruses???

2545>Yes, they are becoming more popular so they are bigger targets. Hackers are now starting to pay attention to Macs. This bulletin from the US Government National Cyber Alert System came in my e-mail just this afternoon.

--- I cut it off here. It goes on for a while longer. ---
Reply:yes and becuase the claim they dont and they dont need virus protection you basically just go and buy a new one cause you cant fix the old one
Reply:There's a much smaller percentage of viruses on Macs.

It's simply because of market share and these people [virus/etc makers] go for as large a crowd as they can get.
Reply:Yes, but not many as most hackers find it more profitable to go after Windows users.
Reply:yes, but rarely
Reply:yes mine has like 5 i think, you can tell like if your internet runs slower that before
Reply:Yes,I am affraid so although it is old any computer can get a virus as long as there is a good hacker out here to do it. So always make sure you have a virus protector
Reply:they do but not as much as Windows Based PC's. but there are virus scans for Mac made by norton
Reply:you must think of it like this...

why would a malicious attacker want to target only 2-10% of the computer population.

same effect with linux...

yes there are infections but it simply doesnt make sense to target such a small portion of the computer world.
Reply:No ways.........

Untill now 16 virus are Discoverd for Linux

Accoding to me there is no virus for Apple Pcs , if some one try to send a Virus to that it will send that back to them only and infects the senders Pc thats the way it was Build
Reply:yes.

all computers get viruses.

no matter how good and high-tech your virus protection security system is, some sort of virus can always get through.

sorry to break it to you.
Reply:YES THEY CAN, BUT NO ONE WRITES THEM, because i think 98 or somethin percent of computer users are pc users... if u were a virus writer which one would you choose?
Reply:of course you are using it in inbternet, it can take viruses, even microsoft get viruses
Reply:Wow. There are so many idiots in here who don't know ANYTHING about Macs.

Macs are not prone to viruses because they are UNIX based, and UNIX is a very, very secure, tough OS to crack.

Crackers would absolutely love to be able to crack UNIX because that is what the world's internet servers run on. If they could take over a server, they wouldn't waste their time on garbage like windows machines. They target windows because they're EASY and it has nothing to do with market share. believe me, if a cracker could write a successful virus for a Mac, they would have done so by now just for bragging rights.

Next to windows, UNIX is the most used OS in the computer world, and it doesn't suffer any of what windows does.

Just because Apple releases security updates, doesn't mean there is a virus out there. It means Apple is on top of it.

The current score:

Mac Viruses: ZERO

Windows Viruses: 250,000 and counting.
Reply:I'll break that down into two parts.

1. Are there Mac viruses? At this point in time, no. Due to a combination of low market share and a Unix-style security structure which is safer (but not 100 percent safe), it is currently an unattractive platform for virus writers.

There are however, numerous MALWARE programs that target the OS X platform.

These, more so than "viruses" in the traditional sense, are what Windows users fight all the time.

2. Can Macs get viruses? Nothing is impossible. Due to the circumstances I mentioned above, it is currently not a major goal for virus writers. However, there is nothing special about the way OS X works that completely excludes it from the possibility in the future. The fact that malware at all exist demonstrates that eventually, one will come out eventually.
Reply:No. Apple bases their OS on a modified UNIX system. Because the programs are encapsulated and not linked internally the way Microsoft OS are, they are not susceptible to what you would think of as a virus. The virus being a self activating and repeating string. The programs may get corrupted individually but that is usually because of the operator and not the structure. I'm not sure of OS10 and above because I'm an old fart and can't afford the new stuff and therefore have no experiance with it.
Reply:They are starting to. Reason they didn't before is that the sleezebags wanted to mess up as many computers as they could so they targeted the PC crowd. Now that Macs are becoming popular along with Mac owners pissing the hackers off bragging about how Macs never get a virus now they are starting to. Contrary to what some say Macs aren't virus proof:

Reply:no they are designed to not get them
Reply:Here are your best answer www.89903.com
Reply:No, they do not.
