Can pupppies catch viruses?

3323>my puppy got sick today and i don't know if it was because of her eating mushrooms in our backyard or she ate some people food by accident i was wondering if she caught the stomach bug from my brother...please help me!!
Reply:They can get sick.

Based on everything you just told us, I think a vet visit is needed.
Reply:Your puppy probably got sick from the mushrooms. Mushrooms can be poisonous. Better see the vet.

Pets-Galore: You have beautiful birds. Their colors go really well together. I love birdies!
Reply:Viruses that make people sick will not make a dog sick and vice versa. These do not jump species as different as human and canine. Chances are the shrooms made the pup sick. Clean up the pups environment as they will attempt to eat anything for the most part.
Reply:Obviously puppies can get viruses, but she will not have caught a stomach bug from your brother. LOL Nor will she get sick from eating human foods. Rather, she may get sick from poor quality dog foods and as a puppy she still needs mummies milk, which you can substitute by giving her human porridge. There are many recipes you can give with oats. Depending on how old the pup is, the occasional raw egg in hot (warm) porridge and milk, a pinch of salt, little butter and some sugar is excellent. You even may add some fresh cream. It will fill her tummy and make her feel most content.

You can also boil the oats with water and add some minced beef or some chicken, turkey, lamb and even sausages. Careful the food is not too hot. Add chopped up raw veg, such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, carrots, cheese, nuts, dried fruits such as apricots, a whole variety of natural foods and in the long run much cheaper and more wholesome. Add some bran with lecithin and fresh herbs. (Wendy Volhard Holistic Diet for dogs)

If she has diarrhoea, I'd give dry biscuits or toast with hard boiled egg, mixed. Weetabix is good also.

Commercial foods, look for the nature diets and dry biscuits James Wellbeloved is a good organic dry food, but you need to increase the water by 80%. Give her a mixture of all of the above. A mushroom from the garden, I would not be careful with unless you are sure it is not poisonous.
Reply:There are certain viruses that are transmittable from humans to dogs but it is highly unlikely that it is the case here. A vet visit is your best bet. It could be mushrooms, it could be something else your puppy ate. A vet will be able to tell you. A good sign is that it only happened once and the puppy is acting normal. It is probably nothing to worry about but only a vet can tell you for sure. Good luck with your puppy!
Reply:They cannot catch viruses like cold or flu from humans. However, if she was eating mushrooms, that can most likely be the cause of the illness and it can be quite serious. Many mushrooms are extremely toxic and by the time symptoms show, the damage has been done. You could also be dealing with something entirely different like parvo or other puppy diseases-especially if the puppy was not vaccinated. Take your puppy to the vet.
