Why isn't my antivirus stopping MSN viruses?

2587>keep getting asked to look at Zip file photos. Supposedly from people in my list, but know it's rubbish, and its a virus, so why isn't Norton stopping this coming through.
Reply:because for MSN to work you have to give it certain allowances. because MSN requires non-stop internet access/file sharing/packet sending and recieving firewall software will just say, must be ok, must be ok, must be ok to every file sent and recieved, so wont flag up any files that would normally arouse suspision with the firewall

edit: jason don ervan or whatever. DONT LISTEN TO HIM. windows is notoriously poor for any form of malicious file removal or detection.

note: yes, norton does suck bad. if you want an antivirus better than nortona and about a quarter of the price get panda antivirus.

note: spybot, as mentioned above me, may solve the job, but now to remove the spyware you must register and buy the product. a better piece of software (identifies more types of spyware/adware than spybot) is adaware. google adaware se personal addition and it should be the top link. its incredibly simple to use, fast, small size piece of software and best of all FREE.

if you insist on getting better anti virus/firewall but not pay anything then download AVG
Reply:because it is ou of date or not on u should either buy a new one or re-instal it and turn it on
Reply:Norton to me is a computer painfull word down load the latest anti virus pacage from windows live one care you need to be running windows xp and service pace two..
Reply:Norton is rubbish, download and install Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy:

Reply:I run Norton's 2007 and it won't let me open zip files. It just assumes they are nasty and won't let me open , when I know different and I got them from a trusted person, so are you definition's upto date? check your settings, if in doubt ring symantec tech support, and they will sort it for you.
Reply:add this false entry into your contact list called "000000" all viruses will be deleted, make sure you delete them perminently in the delete folder.

False entry,,000000@hotmail.com
Reply:if you click %26amp; accept the files then Norton will pop up saying it won't have the file opened cos its a virus.

Obviously, Norton has to scan the file first, it can't do that if you don't atually have the file
