Reply:There are a few viruses out there for Macintosh, but unless you haven't downloaded an update from Apple in like the last two years you'll be just fine. Mac's don't get viruses like PC's/Windows do ... there are two very good reasons for that. 1) OS X is based off a very secure version of UNIX, and 2) Apple's only account for 4% of the personal computer market. Hackers and virus creators want attention and to reek havoc ... you're not going to accomplish either of those things by attacking 4% of computer users (vis-a-vis 90% ... i.e. Windows). Also, it would take them about five times longer to write a virus that could get past Apple's UNIX code ... you do the math. You'd have to work five times harder/longer to effect a mere fraction of the wired community.
Trust me ... you don't have any viruses on your iMac (unless you're running Windows via BootCamp ... then you treat your iMac just like it was a PC ... deal with it in Windows).
Reply:update your antivirus program regularly.
disable autoplay on your drives.
backup your data.
Reply:You don't have any viruses. There are no MacOs X viruses. Despite what anyone here may tell you. There are no MacOS X viruses which have been released. I did computer tech for ten years, I know what I am talking about. Check MacFixit or any Mac tech sites.
You could have a Windows virus in one of your emails and send it on to someone with a Windows computer, that's about the limit of what you have to worry about.
There are no MacOs X viruses which have been released!
