Reply:not directly from playing it, but still be wary of pop-ups and other possible malicious links on the site. some players advertise servers containing automatic downloads to create havoc so it would be a good idea not to visit them. runescape is run by java client which i have had no problem with for over 3 years now.

The ads that are displayed above the game for a free player may contain viruses or lead you to websites that have them.
But these can easily be blocked by using Firefox, and downloading the Adblock Plus extension.
