Are there any viruses for Macs?

3308>I've been told that there aren't any, but only by 1 person, so I don't really know for sure. I know Mac OS X is a lot more secure than Windows, but can it really be THAT much more secure?
Reply:Yes, there are viruses for the MACS, although VERY few and far between, so make sure that you have your virus and malware protection updated, just the same





There are NO totally secure computers as long as there is an Internet and there are communication devices to connect them to any network on the Internet.





And yes, OSX IS more secure than Windoze, BUT, as I mentioned before, ANY computer that connects to ANY network is open to viral attack or ANY other kind of malware like keyloggers, Trojans, Spyware and rootkits.

the reason it's more secure is nothing dangerous can be run from an e-mail or a web site without your running it! Unlike PCs that run all sorts of activex crap by default! Vista is no different, it just asks every time something is slightly suspicious and the users get annoyed and turn it off!

viruses that don't spread aren't much of a virus!





I could send you a virus.... but you would have to save it, unzip it and run it.. You should never get an executable from anyone but a close friend who is sending you something that you know....





Windows(outlook %26amp; IE) starts running crap when you look at the virus e-mail or page!
Reply:From what I've heard, there have been a few Mac viruses, but none of them have really caused any damage. Apple is usually pretty much on top of security and are constantly releasing security updates to OS X. (Just be sure you are running software update regularly to make sure you are up to date.) There may come a time, however, when viruses do become more of a problem, especially as Macs continue to grow more popular. But for now, they really aren't a threat. If you are really worried about it, there are anti-virus programs available for the Mac, such as Virus Barrier by Intego. You might want to give it a look.
