How well is norton antivirus going to find viruses?

2606>I am thinking of downloading torrents and I have Norton Antivirus (2005 to be specific)

I was wondering if my computer gets a virus will it definitely catch it or is there a chance it might slip through?
Reply:As always the problem with antivirus software is how recent is the update.

One way to go aorund this is the online scan service offered by Panda at http://www.infectedornot.com

They let you try their Panda Nano scan and Panda Total Scan there for free, as part of their new "Infected Or Not?" campaign. They will always be updated, they definitely have more virus definitions than anybody else, and their tools scan computers not only for viruses but for all kinds of malware, such as worms, trojans, spyware, adware, and hacking tools.
Reply:No anti-virus catches anywhere near 100% of all viruses and other malware (spyware, worms, trojans, etc)

Especially one that is out-of-date.
Reply:If you are not an experienced user, you will get a virus... Norton is half decent, but also eats all of your computers resources.. I cant tell you how, but it has to do with torrents and finding a better anti-virus (avast) , but get educated before you jump into the deep end
Reply:Just keep your Norton updated and if you do get a virus that Norton can't delete it just download a free anti-virus software and run it and it should get it. Try AVG 7 here at http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/...
Reply:Hey yes Norton has the best I have it and it is great to have
Reply:Try the Pandasoftware.com 30 free trial instead. Panda has caught all the viruses, Trojans and adware that tried to come to my computer!
Reply:well there is no anitvirus that can identify every virus because hackers are making them every 10 minutes or less so yea and microsoft cant keep up with difintions and stuff to find it the best way is to scan ur pc every week i would recommend hit me up if other questions
Reply:torrents in them self are pritty safe any way and as for norton norton is to protective i find blocking every thing that could act harmfull i dont actuly like norton becuase of this

so torrents are very safe iv downloaded over 100 things and iv never got a virus of any of um and id just advice a bit of common sense like dont download a film and open a exe file to get it and check the size of the download ur gettin if u see a film thats on 833kb its fake dont open it but most torrent sites are owned by ppl there for controled and safe

norton is a horrible virus scanner tho since it loads so many mulitble things using 5x more ram than most virus scanners and proccesing power

use isohunt.com very safe torrent site
Reply:hm...from my experience i tried Norton 2003 was ok but norton 2005 and above are pretty bad

try AVG, panda, or mcafee.
