It seems you are confused by a common word, "virus" adapted both for computer and human disease causing agent.

COMPUTER VIRUS: is a non-living thing. It is a computer program like MS word, and MS Excel etc. All this program can do is to carry out different function in computer only.





HUMAN VIRUS: is a living thing. It is there in sick people and you might get it from sick people.





so u can get computer virus through email which would only be harmful to your computer and not to you.





You can get huamn virus as well as bacteria from computer only if a person with CONATGIOUS disease used the computer before you.





And yes, ordinary mail can have viruses as well as bacteria. (infact this is the way some terrorist spread anthrax some time back - by ordinary mail in form of powder).
